What to do When Conflict Happens

When faced with a conflict or a problem people tend to focus immediately on developing a solution. A collaborative model, however, clarifies the issue(s) to be
resolved and delays the identification of a solution until each party’s underlying interests (needs) are examined and discussed. This ensures that options can be generated based on the identified interests rather than on assumptions and guess work. Solutions arrived at using this model have the potential to be more comprehensive, long lasting and constructive than solutions developed using the more traditional problem solving approach. This workshop is an opportunity to improve one’s skills in dealing with conflict as both a participant and a third party in a collaborative problem
solving process.
